Phragmipedium schlimii var. manzurii

Phragmipedium schlimii var. manzurii

Phragmipedium schlimii var. manzurii is a rare natural variety of slipper orchid from the high-elevation wet forests of Colombia. It grows as a terrestrial or lithophyte, meaning it lives in the ground or on rocks, often near constant water seepage.

  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Filtered light is best; avoid any direct sun to prevent the leaves from burning.
  • Temperature: An intermediate grower that requires a cool night drop. Ideal range is 54-75°F (12-24°C). Maintain day temperatures of 65-75°F (18-24°C) and night temperatures of 54-64°F (12-18°C).
  • Humidity: Requires high humidity, around 60-80%, for optimal health. Ensure excellent air circulation to prevent fungal issues in the high-humidity environment.
  • Watering: Must be kept consistently moist and should never dry out completely. Water heavily with water low in mineral salts, ensuring the pot drains well.

Additional Notes

The successive blooms feature the characteristic pouch-like lip of the Slipper Orchids, framed by relatively short, stiff petals and sepals.
