Scaphosepalum fimbriatum

Scaphosepalum fimbriatum

Native to Ecuador, this miniature epiphytic orchid is distinguished by intricately fringed sepals and tiny, sculptural flowers. Its blooms open successively along slender stems, offering an ongoing display under suitable growing conditions.

  • Light: Low to moderate, filtered light. A shaded greenhouse or a position away from direct sun is ideal.
  • Temperature: Warm-growing; aim for daytime temperatures of 72–82°F (22–28°C) and nights of 60–68°F (16–20°C). Protect from cold drafts and excessive heat.
  • Humidity: Maintain 70–90% humidity with gentle, continuous air circulation.
  • Watering: Keep the roots consistently moist without allowing the growing mix to become stagnant or waterlogged. Use rainwater, reverse-osmosis water, or other low-mineral water, and avoid letting the roots dry out completely.

Additional Notes:

Slender growths carry individual elliptical green leaves, forming a small clump. Grow in a fine, airy orchid mix with moisture-retentive sphagnum, or mount only where humidity and frequent watering can be maintained. Retain green flower stems, as they can continue producing successive blooms.
