This is a miniature, cool to cold growing epiphyte that is native to Ecuador. It is found in wet, montane cloud forests. The plant grows with a creeping rhizome and small, erect ramicauls that each carry a single, apical, ovate leaf.
This orchid produces small, single yellow-green flowers. Its most distinctive feature is the trowel-shaped lip, which gives the species its name.
