More information

Bulbophyllum maquilingense

Bulbophyllum maquilingense

This tiny epiphyte, is native to the Philippines, thriving in warm tropical forests between 800 and 1000 meters. It has a creeping rhizome with closely set, small pseudobulbs, each with one elliptical leaf. Its compact size makes it ideal for terrariums.

  • Light: Prefers low to medium, bright, filtered light. Protect it from all harsh, direct sun exposure.
  • Temperature: A warm-growing species. Maintain temperatures between 60-90°F (16-32°C), favoring consistently warm conditions.
  • Humidity: High humidity is crucial (60%-85%). Ensure constant, excellent air circulation to prevent disease.
  • Watering: Water frequently to keep the substrate consistently moist; it should not dry out. Mounting with sphagnum moss aids moisture retention.

Additional Notes

It produces small, solitary flowers (about 1 cm or 2/5 inch) on threadlike stems. The charming, hooded blooms are typically yellow and heavily spotted with purple, maroon, or brown.
