Hoya pentaphlebia

Hoya pentaphlebia

A graceful and distinctive Hoya species native to the Philippines, recognized by its elongated, lance-shaped leaves with five prominent veins running the length of the blade — a characteristic reflected in its name. A rewarding viner that produces attractive umbels of small, star-shaped flowers and adapts well to a variety of indoor growing conditions.

  • Light: Bright, indirect light; tolerates some morning direct sun. Adequate light encourages flowering. Avoid harsh midday sun.
  • Temperature: Intermediate to warm growing. 65–82°F (18–28°C); protect from temperatures below 55°F (13°C).
  • Humidity: 50–70%; adaptable to average household humidity, though higher levels support more vigorous growth.
  • Watering: Allow the substrate to dry out almost completely between waterings; susceptible to root rot if kept too wet. Reduce frequency in winter.

Additional Notes:

Foliage is elongated and lance-shaped with five clearly defined veins, carried on slender vining stems. Do not remove spent peduncles, as new blooms emerge from the same spurs each season. Grow in a well-draining mix (perlite, bark, and a small amount of potting mix). Fertilize monthly during the growing season. Suitable for hanging baskets or trained on a small trellis.
