Laeliocattleya Caligula

Laeliocattleya Caligula

This intergeneric hybrid from C. percivaliana x L. anceps combines the bold, richly colored blooms of percivaliana with the elegant, long-stemmed grace of anceps, resulting in a plant of exceptional character and a striking lip that commands attention in any collection.

  • Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal — a south- or east-facing window with filtered sun, or a shaded greenhouse bench. Avoid direct midday sun to prevent leaf scorch.
  • Temperature: Thrives in intermediate to warm conditions, with daytime temperatures of 70–85°F (21–29°C) and nighttime lows of 55–62°F (13–17°C). A slight temperature drop at night encourages blooming.
  • Humidity: Prefers 50–70% relative humidity. Use a humidity tray or room humidifier if growing indoors in dry climates.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly when the potting medium approaches dryness, then allow it to dry slightly between waterings. Reduce frequency slightly in winter to mimic natural dry-season conditions.

Additional Notes:

Flowers appear on tall, arching spikes and are long-lasting, making this hybrid excellent for display. The pseudobulbs are slender and upright, bearing semi-rigid leaves that reflect the anceps parentage. Best grown in well-draining bark mix or mounted on cork for optimal root health.
