More information

Lepanthes grandiflora

Lepanthes grandiflora

A striking miniature orchid from the cloud forests of Central America, distinguished by its relatively large, deep burgundy-purple flowers with glistening, hair-fringed tepals and a vivid contrasting lip — exceptional in size and presence for the genus.

  • Light: Bright, indirect light — an east-facing window or shaded south/west exposure works well. Avoid direct sun.
  • Temperature: Cool-growing — 50–65°F (10–18°C) nights, with days not exceeding 75°F (24°C). Consistent cool conditions are essential.
  • Humidity: High humidity of 70–90% is essential. Use a humidity tray, terrarium setup, or cool-mist humidifier.
  • Watering: Keep the roots consistently moist but never waterlogged. Water frequently with soft or rainwater; never allow the medium to dry out completely.

Additional Notes:

Foliage consists of small, oval, dark green leaves produced along a creeping rhizome, each capable of bearing a single inflorescence that reblooms repeatedly over time. Best suited for experienced growers with a cool, humid environment such as a terrarium or cool greenhouse. A standout species in any miniature orchid collection.
