More information

Lepanthes niesseniae

Lepanthes niesseniae

A striking miniature species native to Ecuador. It produces successive flowers directly over the glossy lanceolate leaf, each with a large ovate acuminate dorsal sepal with prominent longitudinal veins, horizontally spreading coral-red lateral sepals, and a complex labellum with contrasting petals at the center.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 50–70% shade cloth; avoid direct sun, which can scorch the glossy foliage.
  • Temperature: 55–72°F (13–22°C); an Intermediate grower that benefits from good air circulation and stable temperatures.
  • Humidity: 75–90%; maintain consistently high humidity — ideal for terrariums or humid intermediate setups.
  • Watering: Water frequently to keep the medium evenly moist; avoid prolonged dryness, as Lepanthes roots are sensitive to dehydration.

Additional Notes

Best grown mounted on cork or in a small net pot with fine sphagnum moss. Its compact habit and colorful flowers make it an excellent terrarium subject. Plants are shipped bare root and well-established.
