Sudamerlycaste dyeriana

This distinctive orchid displays nodding green flowers with broad, downward-pointing sepals and a textured lip. Their sculptural shape offers an understated alternative to brightly colored blooms.

  • Light: Bright, filtered light near an east-facing window or behind a sheer curtain. Protect from strong midday sun.
  • Temperature: Cool to intermediate-growing; 60–75°F (16–24°C) during the day and 50–60°F (10–16°C) at night. Avoid prolonged heat.
  • Humidity: 60–80%, with gentle air circulation.
  • Watering: Keep the potting mix evenly moist during active growth, allowing the surface to begin drying between waterings. Use an airy, moisture-retentive orchid mix and avoid standing water. Reduce watering when growth slows without allowing prolonged drying.

Additional Notes:

Long, pleated green leaves develop from pseudobulbs, while individual flowers are carried near the base on curved stems. Allow space around the pot for developing blooms and repot as fresh roots emerge. Keep water from collecting around tender new shoots.
