Lycaste Hugo Medina 'Gigi'

Lycaste Hugo Medina 'Gigi'

A cross of Lyc. Rakuhoku and Lyc. Shoalhaven, this impressive hybrid delivers large, waxy blooms with broad creamy-green tepals and a delicate pink-magenta lip — a distinguished cultivar that exemplifies the elegance of modern Lycaste breeding.

  • Light: Bright, indirect light. Avoid direct midday sun; an east- or shaded south-facing window works well.
  • Temperature: Intermediate to cool-growing — 55–65°F (13–18°C) nights and 65–78°F (18–26°C) days. A distinct cool, dry rest period in winter encourages blooming.
  • Humidity: 60–80% with good air movement to prevent fungal issues.
  • Watering: Water freely during active growth; reduce significantly during the winter rest when pseudobulbs mature. Resume watering as new growth emerges.

Additional Notes:

Best grown in a well-draining medium such as coarse bark or a bark-perlite mix. Repot every 2 years or when the medium breaks down, ideally at the start of new growth. Avoid wetting the new growths to prevent rot. Responds well to balanced fertilizer during the growing season, reduced during rest.
