Monnierara Jumbo Delight

Monnierara Jumbo Delight

A dramatic and rare intergeneric orchid hybrid from the Catasetinae alliance, 'Jumbo Delight' is prized for its large, globose flowers in a deep burgundy to near-black tone — among the darkest flower colors achievable in orchid cultivation. Multiple blooms are produced simultaneously on arching inflorescences, creating a bold and unforgettable display that commands attention in any collection.

  • Light: Bright, indirect to moderate direct light; strong light during the growing season promotes robust pseudobulb development and reliable blooming. Reduce light slightly during dormancy.
  • Temperature: Intermediate to warm growing. 65–85°F (18–29°C); tolerates brief temperature drops but protect from prolonged exposure below 55°F (13°C).
  • Humidity: 50–70%; ensure good air circulation alongside humidity.
  • Watering: Water freely during active growth; reduce significantly when pseudobulbs mature and leaves begin to drop, allowing a dry rest period to trigger blooming. Resume watering when new growth appears.

Additional Notes:

Flowers are large, globose, and deep burgundy to near-black on arching inflorescences. As a Catasetinae hybrid, this plant is deciduous — leaf drop during dormancy is normal and expected. Grow in a well-draining mix (coarse bark and perlite) or mounted. Fertilize weekly at quarter strength during active growth; withhold fertilizer during dormancy.
