More information

Encyclia cordigera f. alba

Encyclia cordigera f. alba

A rare and highly sought-after alba form of one of the most fragrant orchids in the genus, native to the tropical forests of Central America, bearing pure white to cream flowers with a pristine white lip — a striking departure from the typical dark-lipped species.

  • Light: Bright, indirect light — a south or west-facing window with a sheer curtain is ideal. Tolerates more light than most orchids but avoid harsh midday sun.
  • Temperature: Intermediate to warm-growing — 60–68°F (16–20°C) nights, with days up to 85°F (29°C). Tolerates a wide range but benefits from a slight seasonal cool-dry rest in winter.
  • Humidity: Moderate to high humidity of 55–75%. Good air circulation is important to prevent fungal issues.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly, then allow the medium to dry slightly between waterings. Reduce watering during the winter rest period to encourage blooming.

Additional Notes:

Produces pseudobulbs with semi-rigid leaves and upright, branched inflorescences bearing multiple long-lasting flowers with an intense, sweet fragrance. The alba form is significantly rarer than the standard variety and highly prized by collectors. A rewarding species that blooms reliably with proper seasonal care.
